“Tiananmen Square. The fall of the Berlin Wall. The toppling of Saddam Hussein's statue in Baghdad. The Orange Revolution in Ukraine. For most of us, the mention of these events conjures up vivid images—a lone man standing in front of advancing tanks, hammers swinging at crumbling concrete, ropes pulling at a huge metal form, protesters swathed in vivid shades of orange. Computers and the Internet allow unprecedented access to information and the formation of virtual global communities.
