Globalization Photo Contest Winner
Presenting our most recent Globalization Photo Contest winner
If you look around you can see that globalization is affecting the world and the lenses through which we view it. The GW Center for the Study of Globalization (GWCSG) challenged students to take a look through their lenses and capture the image they saw there. Because a picture is worth a thousand words, but a snapshot of globalization breaks even the language barrier: telling a wordless story through the images we see is a powerful way to communicate in our increasingly integrating and globalizing world.
So we asked the question "What does globalization look like?"
We received many answers to our question; images that captured globalization in an expressive photo and showed globalization through unique situations and locations.
Bryant Jones became the judges' pick for his photo "Mai Dang Lao" depicting a McDonald's restaurant in front of the ancient Drum Tower in Xi'an, China:
"Golden arches grab your attention from blocks away. Even the hustle and bustle of China's emerging and rapidly growing economy can't hide the oddity of this photography. The ancient Drum Tower in antediluvian Xi'an now adorns blatant references to globalization. Fast food restaurants have soared in popularity as Chinese affluence increases."
