Privatization and Organizational Change
Research and Event Summaries
Project Abstract
This project will examine privatization efforts in several nations with a view towards determining in what fashion the models popularized in the United Kingdom and promoted heavily by a number of United States and international organizations (World Bank, IMF, ect.) have challenged organizational behavior and the relationship between the private and public sectors. While there have been a number of studies that examined the financial performance of industries pre—and post-privatization, there has been no systematic study examining organizational behavior within the firm nor the changing relationship between the public and private sectors. This project is a multi-nation, multi-disciplinary study involving collaborations with universities in the UK, China, Egypt and Brazil. It will develop a model of organizational change resulting from various privatization, approaches and examine how different contextual factors in four different cultural settings shape privatization efforts. The result will be presented in conferences staged in the US and abroad and published in both domestic and international management journals.
